Words in the Dark: Post 2

~99,000 words = almost 2X NaNoWriMo
Rebel or not?
In the NaNoWriMo forum* entitled Am I a Rebel? Find out here! is the heading, “I’m continuing last year’s NaNo, or another work I’ve been writing on before November. Am I a rebel?“
The surprising answer is, “Not anymore. You no longer have to start from scratch …“! This is terrific news for writers like me.
Of course, you can only count the words you’ve written between November 1st and 30th, and you still have to write 50K if you want to “win.”
So, basically, if I continue with Beyond the Music during NaNo this year, I’m officially not a rebel, contrary to my belief in Words in the Dark: Post 1. If I get 50,000 new words written, I’ll submit them for validation and receive my second badge! Just to warn you, though, working on an existing work is harder. On top of that, I’m not a fast fiction writer. Only time will tell.
Novel-length fiction? You’re not a rebel
The steadfast rule for NaNoWriMo is that it is still defined by fiction (including fanfiction or a book of short stories with a common theme).
Other forms of creative work are more than welcome and even have their own forums, though writers of non-fiction (including memoir and biography), blogs, photo stories, scripts, video gaming, graphic novels, and music composition are defined as NaNo Rebels. But, hey, what cool stuff!
What if you are a NaNo Rebel?
NaNo Rebels count. You can validate (submit your 50,000 words** and receive your badge) if you choose to. The decision is yours.
NaNoWriMo is a self-challenge. The real prizes are the work you put in and the manuscript you’ve created.
Do you know anyone who is writing a novel by hand?

REBEL DESTINY in the making
This is a special point of interest, because author Leslie Hodgins is writing her adult sci-fi/fantasy novel, REBEL DESTINY, by hand, not on a computer. NaNoWriMo has made it possible to submit handwritten novels for validation through their link to a random-text generator. The random text becomes the word equivalent of the handwritten text and can then be submitted.
By the way, NaNoWriMo 2016 starts in 16 hours. Happy writing.
And before that, happy Halloween.

NaNo Rebel definition by Wikiwrimo (public page).
**I do not know how work that involves photographs or graphics is validated at this time. The forums likely contain such instructions.
NaNoWriMo 2016: How Did We Do?
This is good news for many writers. I only start a brand new piece of work for NaNo but to all those taking part this year, enjoy and good luck. I have too many existing manuscripts to compete for the next couple of years! WIP on 4 novels is enough for me. Once these are out in the world I will return to NaNo, it is perfect for my style of writing – free flow.

Agreed. This is great news.
Good luck on your 4 WIPs.
